Percussio Orff Ensemble (3rd–6th)
Percussio is an Orff ensemble where students play beautiful soprano, alto, and bass xylophones, along with metallophones, glockenspiels, and hand percussion. The ensemble combines instruments with speech, movement, and song.
Percussio students learn eye-hand coordination, listening skills, and musical concepts while having fun! In rehearsal students use teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking to focus on learning music that honors God. Students learn new repertoire, correct playing technique, and strategies to help them develop as a growing musician.
All students in 3rd–6th grade are welcome! No audition is required, but previous music experience (reading notes and rhythms) helps students to learn their parts. During rehearsals at school, students are asked to read note names, rhythms, and memorize mallet patterns. Weekly practice at home is essential to the success of the ensemble’s performances! The purchase of a small xylophone/glockenspiel is required to practice instrument parts at home.
