Essential Oil Usage Guidelines
The school nurses in both the lower and upper school clinics offer 100% therapeutic grade essential plant oil aromatherapy to help students manage minor discomforts during the school day such as headaches, tummy aches, stuffy noses, fatigue, anxiety, and stress.
Simply breathing in essential oil fragrance often helps students feel better and relieves their minor discomforts without the need for medication.
Here are examples of the ways TGS nurses use essential oils:
- Using peppermint oil to open up blood vessels, which increases blood circulation and helps to relieve headaches, tummy aches, and fatigue
- Offering Lavender oil to calm the brain’s emotional center and help reduce stress and anxiety
- Using a combination of peppermint and eucalyptus oils to help relieve minor nasal congestion
Sometimes the plant oils are offered to students in the clinic in addition to medication to help medication be more effective. Use of essential plant oils is one tool our school nurses consider to care for a student’s body, mind, and soul in a holistic way.
If parents do not want their child to be offered essential oils by the school nurses, they are asked to contact the lower or upper school nurse via email (or using the contact form below) at any time to make their wishes known.
