From the Deans
Welcome from Peter Vande Brake and Kyle Hughes
The Geneva School, a community of faith and learning, recognizes that growth and learning take place inside and outside the classroom. Activities in athletics and the arts complement the academic program and, when combined, serve to further our school’s mission to provide “an extraordinary education.” These two aspects of the students’ education at Geneva are intertwined as they advance through the school from K4 to their senior year. There are many opportunities for students to participate in the life of the school both inside and outside of the classroom. Our curriculum is at the heart of what we do as a school, but we also offer many options for students to grow and learn outside of the classroom. There are clubs, sports teams, and options for them to participate in the fine arts of music (instrumental and choral) and drama and to practice and hone artistic expression through drawing, painting, sculpting, and photography.
Faculty, staff, and coaches help students cultivate a love for truth, goodness, and beauty during their time at Geneva—through classroom learning and cocurricular involvement. They encourage students to grow into well-rounded individuals by taking advantage of the many opportunities at TGS to pursue their interests and develop their God-given talents. The ultimate goal is human flourishing with a robust understanding of “the good life,” defined by a biblical Christian faith. Our aim is not to teach them what to think but, instead, to help them to learn how to think and how to express themselves with wisdom and eloquence in the larger marketplace of ideas as people of character and Christian faith.
We want our students to have a robust and joyful life while they are at Geneva. We encourage them to participate broadly in the opportunities that they are offered while they are here, and we have many options for them to choose from. There is something here for every student to participate in, become a part of, and to enjoy while they attend Geneva.
